Monuments[]
# | Monument | Levels | Requirement | Image | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bricks | Hats | Gems | Green Gems | ||||
1 | H. C. Andersen Fairy-Tale House | 1-10 | 85,000 | - | - | - | |
American children often enjoy a rather cleaned-up version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tales. Danish children read the original, rather grisly versions! | |||||||
2 | Copenhagen City Hall | 11-20 | 190,000 | - | - | - | |
The precise astronomical clock here was fabricated out of 15,448 individual parts. During wartime, Danish citizens donated their kitchen utensils to supply the brass to make it. | |||||||
3 | Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek | 21-30 | 280,000 | - | - | 3 | |
Here you'll find the art world’s only “Nasothek:” an exhibit of sculpted noses used in the 19th century to replace the lost and damaged noses of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures -- which have since undergone “de-restoration.” | |||||||
4 | Arken | 31-40 | 290,000 | - | - | 4 | |
This museum’s building evokes a giant shipwreck, meant to be sited at the shore. When conservation concerns relocated it inland, the designers instead had the sea re-routed to the building, creating an “Art Island.” | |||||||
5 | Frederiksberg Slot | 41-50 | 320,000 | 250,000 | - | 2 | |
The castle houses the National History Museum where you'll find Andy Warhol's portrait of Queen Margrethe II - and the photo he used to base his portrait upon. | |||||||
6 | Bella Sky Hotel | 51-60 | 360,000 | 320,000 | - | 4 | |
Some say the building’s two towers, which lean away from each other at 15 degrees in each direction, evoke two embarrassed hotel guests trying to avoid meeting in the lobby. | |||||||
7 | Dome of Visions | 61-70 | 390,000 | 350,000 | - | 5 | |
This geodesic dome with greenhouses and public space is a traveling multi-use unit - it has been used differently at several sites since 2013. | |||||||
8 | Rosenborg | 71-80 | 420,000 | 380,000 | - | 27 | |
The royal garden contains a 1625 sculpture depicting a lion with a strange, humanoid face tearing apart a horse. Art historians agree that the sculptor had probably never seen an actual lion. | |||||||
9 | Christiansborg Slot | 81-90 | 470,000 | 420,000 | 250,000 | 3 | |
Earlier versions of this 1928 Neo-Baroque palace burned in 1794 and 1884. It’s much safer to redecorate these days: all you need to justify a complete palace renovation is a reality-TV show. | |||||||
10 | Copenhagen Opera House | 91-100 | 520,000 | 450,000 | 350,000 | 4 | |
The Royal Box in this ultra-modern venue is right up close to the stage on the left side. It is said the Queen requested this unusual placement because she loves to watch the backstage action in the wings. | |||||||
11 | Orto Botanico | 101-110 | 560,000 | 520,000 | 450,000 | 4 | |
Each of the 27 Victorian greenhouses has its own climate. In the Arctic Greenhouse, the specimens are frozen and kept dark in winter, an experience familiar to all Copenhageners. | |||||||
12 | Kastellet Fortress | 111-120 | 630,000 | 570,000 | 550,000 | 5 | |
This fortification is notable both for its windmills, built to supply grain during a siege, and for the handful of cannons installed by King Frederik III to face Copenhagen itself because...um, that’s how paranoid kings rolled in 1663. |
